Speaker: Mr. Silas Julian STELCK
Topic: Schleswig-Holstein - Germany from a different perspective

About the Speaker: Rotary International

About the Speaker:

Current Rotary Scholar in Hong Kong, doing a post-graduate studies at the Chinese University of Hong Kong until June 2014.

Sponsoring Club: Rotary Club of Brunsbuettel (RD 1890) in Germany

Hosting Club: Rotary Club of City Northwest Hong Kong,

Mr. Silas Julian STELCK is currently a Rotary Foundation scholar under the new grant system and one of 4 German Global Grant Scholars in Hong Kong. Silas is hosted by the Rotary Club of City Northwest Hong Kong, and his Sponsoring Club is the Rotary Club of Brunsbuettel in Germany.

It is a tradition of the Rotary scholarship program to act as a goodwill ambassador and promote cultural awareness and international friendship during one’s study abroad. As a Rotary scholar, one would give talks about one’s culture or any related topic to Rotary clubs in the host country.

Silas' Sponsoring Club encourages him to talk about the historical and cultural relevance of the area he comes from: Schleswig-Holstein, the northernmost part of Germany. In particular, he would like to point out that it is very different from what German stereotypes represent, although they do drink beer!

Before Silas came to Hong Kong he obtained a degree in business law in Germany. However, he had the opportunity to learn about Asia during an exchange semester in Shanghai and a year as a Rotary Youth Ambassador in Taiwan before. He was fascinated by Hong Kong when he first travelled here and he is glad to be able to study here now.
